Short answer: Mileage allowances on rental cars are set by the contract and vary with rental length and car group. Your allowance is shown on the booking screen and in the contract you sign. This article gives no figures; it explains how the allowance works, how the odometer is read and how excess is calculated. The regulation that takes effect on 1 January 2027 adds a minimum floor for short-term rentals.
A mileage limit is the total distance you can drive at no extra cost during the rental. Companies set it to keep wear, service intervals and resale value predictable. It does not stop you driving; distance above the limit is charged at the rate written in the contract.

The measure is the odometer. The reading at pick-up is written into the contract and read again at return; the difference is what you drove. The allowance can be defined in two ways: a daily allowance (a set distance per day) or a contract total (one distance for the whole period on longer rentals). Your contract states which applies.
Tip: Photograph the odometer at pick-up and at return. It is your strongest evidence if there is ever a dispute.
Every kilometre above your allowance is charged at the unit rate in the contract: kilometres over × unit rate. It is calculated at return. From 1 January 2027 the regulation requires the rate to be written in the contract (art. 13/2); it is good practice today as well.
Some companies offer unlimited mileage or extra-kilometre packages on certain car groups or longer rentals. If you need such an option, ask before booking; what is available depends on car group and rental length.
Approximate round-trip distances to compare with your allowance: Sapanca about 280 km, Kartepe about 240 km, Bursa about 310 km, Abant about 540 km. City driving comes on top. If the car is delivered to your address, the trip to and from a branch does not touch the odometer either.
The Regulation on the Rental of Motor Vehicles (Official Gazette 15 August 2026, no. 33341) takes effect on 1 January 2027 and sets a minimum mileage floor for short-term rentals (art. 13/2):
