There is a grace period of up to 60 minutes on return. Rentals shorter than 24 hours, or by the hour, are not available.
The minimum is 24 hours for a daily rental and 30 days for a monthly rental. So you can rent a car for a single day, but the period does not go below 24 hours. The full conditions are on the rental conditions page.
When you book, you choose the pick-up and drop-off date and time; the 24 hours start from the time you collect the car. For example, if you pick the car up at 10:00 on Saturday, a one-day rental ends at 10:00 on Sunday. Bringing the car back the same evening does not shorten the period; the minimum is still counted as one day.
That is why the pick-up time matters: a car collected in the morning stays with you until the next morning, and one collected in the afternoon until the next afternoon.
